Butyl Pad Removal
OVERVIEW
The affected vehicles were produced with either one large butyl pad or three smaller butyl pads inside the right box outer panel. This program involves
inspecting the outer sheet metal for perforation, removing the butyl pad along with any adhesive residue, reinspecting for perforation, then treating the
affected area and applying low temperature anti-corrosion coating. See Figure 1. Under NO circumstances will a new butyl pad be reinstalled in this
area.
CORROSION PERFORATION - INITIAL INSPECTION
NOTE:
The exterior of the pickup bed RH box outer panel must be clean and dry to properly inspect for corrosion perforation.
1.
Inspect the area shown for any signs of corrosion perforation such as paint bubbling or actual corrosion holes in the panel. See Figure 1.

If there are no signs of corrosion perforation, proceed to Butyl Pad Removal

If corrosion perforation is present, proceed to Pickup Bed Removal and continue on with RH Box Outer Panel Replacement.
