Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with
water.
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) module can be damaged if exposed to these
charges.
CAUTION: When installing a new ABS module or HCU, do not use the pump motor harness as a carrying handle. Failure to follow these instructions
may result in damage to the HCU assembly.
NOTE: The ABS module and the HCU are not repairable. If an internal problem exists in either one, a new part must be installed.
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Vehicles equipped with a 4.6L engine, remove the air cleaner assembly.
Vehicles equipped with a 5.4L (3V) engine, remove the air cleaner inlet tube and the resonator.
