Removal and Installation

1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires.

2. NOTICE: Do not allow the caliper assembly to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.

NOTICE: Do not remove the guide pin stud bolt by twisting on the noise damper or damage to the damper may occur.

Remove the brake caliper guide pin bolt, the guide pin stud bolt and position the caliper assembly aside.

Support the caliper assembly using mechanic's wire.

-

To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

3. Remove the brake disc.

4. Clean any rust or foreign material from the brake disc and wheel hub.

Use specified brake parts cleaner to clean the brake disc and hub surfaces.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Apply brakes several times to verify correct brake operation.

Removal and Installation

1. Remove the rear axle. For additional information, refer to Differential Assembly &/or Axle Shaft Assembly.

2. Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake System.

3. Remove the 4 brake caliper support bracket bolts and flag nuts.

To install, tighten the bolts to 165 Nm (122 lb-ft).

4. If equipped, drill out the 2 rivets.

Protect the seal and bearings from chips.

-

It is not necessary to install new rivets.

5. Separate the brake disc shield from the brake caliper support bracket and the rear axle housing.

6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
