Thermostat: Service and Repair

Thermostat - 4.6L (3V)

Removal and Installation

1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding  See: Service and Repair/Cooling

System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.

2. Remove the Throttle Body (TB). For additional information, refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction.

3. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve hose.

4. If servicing the thermostat housing, release the upper radiator hose clamp and disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.

5. Remove the 2 bolts, the thermostat housing and the thermostat. Discard the O-ring seal.

Inspect the mating surfaces. Clean the sealing surfaces with metal surface prep and silicone gasket remover. Follow the directions on the
packaging.

If necessary, install a new thermostat with the spring facing down.
