Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair

Block Heater

Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding  See: Cooling System/Service

and Repair/Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.

3. Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.

4. NOTE: Do not loosen the block heater retaining screw more than necessary for removal.

Loosen the block heater retaining screw and remove the block heater.

To install, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).

5. NOTE: Clean the engine block mating surface with metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Route the block heater power cable away from hot or rotating components, or damage to the cable can occur.
