Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
Journal

Clearance

NOTE:  The camshaft journals must meet specifications before checking camshaft journal clearance.

1. Remove the camshaft bearing cap.

2. Lay Plastigage(R), across the face of the camshaft bearing surface.

3. Position the camshaft bearing cap and install the camshaft bearing cap bolts in the sequence indicated.

NOTE:  Do not turn the camshaft while doing this procedure.

4. Carefully remove camshaft bearing cap bolts and cap.
