(1) Position the appropriate differential bearing (RH or LH).
(2) Use the appropriate press to install the differential bearing.

Repeat for the other differential bearing.
38. Install Dial Indicator Bracketry and Dial Indicator.
(1) Install Differential Housing Spreader.
(2) Install Dial Indicator Bracketry and Dial Indicator.
NOTE: Make sure the indicator needle is in the spreader adapter hole.
39. Spread the front axle housing.
CAUTION: Overspreading may cause damage to the front axle housing.
40. Position the differential bearing shims.
(1) Apply a light coating of Premium Long Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-MlC75-B to one side of the
differential bearing shims to help hold them in place.
(2) Position the differential bearing shims.
CAUTION: Never attempt to drive differential bearing shim in place. The front axle housing machined surfaces may be permanently damaged.
