Canister purge valves may resonate during deceleration modes, causing a whistling sound in the engine compartment.
Some of the subject vehicles built prior to April 15, 1984, may exhibit an engine "whistle" noise during deceleration (decel).
The noise is audible from the passenger compartment (cab) and is the result of resonance of the purge valve diaphragm.
The following procedure is recommended:
1.
Remove and discard the vacuum retard delay valve (part no. E3AE-12A208-FA, yellow and white) by disconnecting the white side from the purge
signal hose and removing the valve and the short rubber hose from the tee in the purge valve harness.
