ISSUE
Customers may report a brake fluid leak at the left rear wheel which may result in a spongy brake pedal, increased pedal travel, and/or illumination of the
red brake warning lamp on some vehicles driven frequently on gravel roads or similarly severe conditions. This may be caused by a loose brake hose
connection at the left rear brake caliper. (This condition may also occur on the right rear brake caliper of F-550 vehicles built on or after 6/15/1998.) The
brake hose joint may lose clamp load and begin to leak due to stone impingement on the hose banjo block which may cause additional deformation of the
copper washers resulting in the reduction of clamp load and subsequent joint leak.
ACTION
Replace the current brake hose with a revised brake hose which is routed behind the rear axle and attach a metal stone shield onto the front face of brake
caliper. The rerouted brake hose is protected from damage by the rear axle tube. The metal stone shield mounted on the front face of the caliper protects
the hose banjo block from stone impingement to reduce the possibility of leaks. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for installation
procedures.
