LIGHT TRUCK:
1988-89 E-250, E-350, F-250, F-350, F SUPER DUTY
ISSUE:
An electronic throttle position sensor (TPS) is used on all E and F Series trucks with an E40D automatic transmission. The TPS and vacuum
regulator valve (VRV) serve the same purpose; they control the shift points of the automatic transmission. The VRV uses vacuum to control
the shift points, while the TPS sends a voltage signal that varies with the throttle position to the E40D automatic transmission.
ACTION:
If a fuel injection pump is received with the TPS installed (see chart below for applicable units) it must be removed prior to servicing the
pump. Use the following service procedure to remove and install the TPS.
