Fuel/Water Separator: Service and Repair
Draining
NOTE: To avoid engine stall-out caused by air entering the fuel system, do not drain separator while the engine is running.
1. Stop the vehicle and shut OFF the engine.
2. Place an appropriate container under the drain tube to collect the drained fluid. The drain tube is attached to the manual drain valve at the base of
the water separator drain bowl.

3. Manually open the drain valve by rotating it away from the filter housing.
4. Allow drain valve to remain open for approximately 25 seconds, or until clear (water-free) diesel fuel is flowing from the drain tube.
5. Close the drain tube by rotating the manual valve back toward the filter housing.
WARNING: AFTER DRAINING WATER SEPARATOR, MAKE SURE THAT THE DRAIN VALVE IS FULLY CLOSED AND SECURE.
6. Restart the engine and check "Water-In-Fuel" lamp. It should not be illuminated. If the lamp is ON, there is either a problem with the fuel system
or the lamp system.
