Differential Case: Service and Repair
Removal & Installation

Dana  44/50 With Leaf Springs

1. Raise and support front of vehicle. 
2. Remove front tires and brake calipers. Position calipers aside, leaving brake lines attached, please refer to Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake

System/Brake Caliper/Service and Repair/ See: Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake System/Brake Caliper/Service and Repair

CAUTION:  Do not allow weight of calipers to hang on brake lines.

3. Support right axle assembly with a suitable jack and remove two U-bolts attaching shock absorber mounting plate and leaf spring to axle assembly.

4. Disconnect vent tube, differential housing.

NOTE:  Remove vent fitting from differential housing and install a 1/8 inch pipe plug.

5. Remove right axle assembly to crossmember pivot bolt and the axle assembly. 
6. Remove right axle shaft boot and discard boot clamps. 
7. Slide axle shaft out of slip shaft. 
8. Support left axle arm assembly with a suitable jack and remove two U-bolts attaching shock absorber mounting plate and leaf spring to axle

assembly. 

9. Support differential housing with a suitable jack, then remove left axle assembly to crossmember pivot bolt and the axle assembly. 

10. Reverse procedure to install.

Dana 60 Monobeam

REMOVAL

1. Raise the vehicle on a twin-post hoist.
2. Remove the front wheels and tires from the vehicle.

CAUTION:  After removal, the disc brake caliper (2B120) must be wired to the spring or otherwise supported to prevent suspending the disc
brake caliper by the flexible hose. Allowing the disc brake caliper to hang by the flexible hose could result in brake line failure. If suspension of
the disc brake caliper is not practical, remove it.

3. Remove the brake caliper from the (part of front disc brake hub and rotor).

4. Remove the washers and nuts securing the front stabilizer bar links (5K483) to the front stabilizer bar (5482). Disconnect the front stabilizer bar

links from the front stabilizer bar. 

5. If required, remove the U-bolts and bolts and nuts retaining the front stabilizer bar and stabilizer bar brackets (5486) to the axle and remove the

front stabilizer bar.
