8. Disconnect the return hose-to-steering gear fitting.

Discard the O-ring seal.

To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
9. Remove the cotter pin, retainer cap and the inner drag link-to-sector shaft nut.
1. Remove and discard the cotter pin.
2. Remove the sector shaft retainer cap and nut.

To install, tighten to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
10. Using the special tool, disconnect the inner drag link from the sector shaft arm.
F-250/350 vehicles
11. Remove the 3 bolts and the steering gear.
^
Discard the bolts.
^
To install, tighten to 165 Nm (122 ft. lbs.).
F-450/550 vehicles
12. Remove the 3 bolts and the steering gear.

Discard the bolts.
^
To install, tighten to 300 Nm (221 ft. lbs.).
All vehicles
13. CAUTION: The sector shaft arm-to-sector shaft nut must not be reused. The threads of the nut are coated with a dry adhesive. When the
nut is removed, the dry adhesive is degraded. If the nut is reused, failure of the nut and/or sector shaft arm and shaft may occur.
Remove the sector shaft arm-to-sector shaft nut.

Discard the nut.

To install, tighten to 475 Nm (350 ft. lbs.).
F-250/350 vehicles
14. Using the special tool, remove the sector shaft arm.
F-450/550 vehicles
15. Using the special tool and 2 Grade 8 bolts, 90 mm (3.54 inch), separate the sector shaft arm from the steering gear.
