Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Catalytic Converter - 6.0L Diesel
Removal
1. Remove and discard the 2 catalytic exhaust downpipe-to-catalytic converter nuts.
2. Loosen the catalytic converter-to-muffler coupling or, if equipped, catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe coupling.
3. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the rubber isolator.
4. Remove the catalytic converter.
Installation
NOTE: Do not tighten any fasteners until all components are aligned.
1. Clean the mating surface of the exhaust Y-pipe flange-to-catalytic converter flange.
2. Position the catalytic converter and connect the rubber isolator.
3. Loosely install 2 new catalytic converter-to-exhaust downpipe nuts.
4. NOTE: Using an abrasive pad, clean the exhaust coupling surface area of any surface rust.
Place the new coupling on the catalytic converter-to-muffler joint or, if equipped, catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe joint. Make sure
the coupling is installed no more the 4 mm (0.15 inch) from the back of the button on the end of the pipe.
5. Align the exhaust system. For additional information refer to Exhaust System Alignment.
6. Tighten the catalytic converter-to-exhaust downpipe nuts.

Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
7. Tighten the catalytic converter-to-muffler coupling or, if equipped, catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe coupling.
^
Tighten to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
