SUSPENSION-REAR-ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS AND
ADJUSTMENTS
FORD:
1988-92 FESTIVA
This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include 1992 model Festiva vehicles and to correct the total toe-in specifications.
ISSUE:
Rear wheel alignment specifications and adjustment procedures are now available for service use.
ACTION:
Use the following rear wheel alignment specifications and adjustment procedure to properly align the rear wheels.
1.
Check the tire inflation and, if necessary, set it to the recommended pressure.
2.
Inspect the rear wheel bearing play and, if necessary, correct it.
3.
Park the vehicle on level ground. Be sure there is no luggage on board or passenger load.
4.
Confirm that the difference in the rear ride height between the left and right sides is within 10 mm or .4'. Check this by measuring
from the center of the rear wheel to the highest point on the wheel opening as shown in Figure 1.
The only rear suspension adjustment that can be made is the lateral positioning of the torsion beam for tracking. This procedure is part
of the torsion beam installation. Refer to the 1991/92 Festiva Shop Manual, Page 04-02-16, for service details.
Rear wheel camber and toe-in are determined by the torsion beam trailing arms and are not adjustable. Camber or toe-in out of
specification indicates torsion beam distortion resulting from curb impacts, collision damage or improper hoisting.
Correcting rear camber or toe-in out of specification (other than a lateral adjustment) requires replacement of the torsion beam. Refer to
the 1991/92 Festiva Shop Manual, Section 04-02, for service details.
