Generator and Regulator - Generator—Vehicles Built Up To: 01/1999 1.3L Endura-E (HCS), Vehicles With: Air Conditioning/Power Steering Fiesta 1996 (08/1995-02/2002)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  1. Remove the catalyst. For additional information, refer to Section  309-00 Exhaust System.
    1. Remove the two bolts.
    1. Unclip the coolant hose.
  1. Remove the drive belt lower shield.

  1. De-tension and locally remove the drive belt.
    • Turn the belt tensioner clockwise.
    • If the belt shows any signs of damage or fatigue it should be replaced.
Vehicles with air conditioning

  1. Detach the air conditioning compressor (four bolts).
    • Support the compressor using suitable wire or cable tie.
All vehicles

  1. Disconnect the alternator wiring.

  1. Remove the two retaining bolts from the rear of the alternator.

  1. Remove the alternator (two front retaining bolts and nut).

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. Reposition the alternator and loosely secure with the rear retaining bolts.

  1. Refit and tighten the alternator front retaining bolts.

  1. Tighten the two rear retaining bolts.
  1. Reconnect the alternator wiring.
Vehicles with air conditioning

  1. Refit the air conditioning compressor.
  1. Refit the drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.
    • Ensure the drive belt is correctly located on all pulleys.
  1. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
