Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Pedal—LHD, Vehicles With: Manual Transaxle Fiesta 2002.25 (11/2001-)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
WARNING:
WARNING:In the event of a frontal impact to a vehicle equipped with a decoupler brake pedal in which damage to, or significant movement of, the instrument panel or the brake booster has occurred, a new brake pedal must be installed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower panel.
    1. Remove the lower retaining screws.
    1. Remove the upper retaining screws from the stowage compartment.
    1. Release the clip.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
    Centralize the steering and lock it in position.

  1. Detach the steering column shaft from the steering gear pinion.
    • Discard the retaining bolt.

  1. Disconnect the brake pedal switch electrical connectors and the clutch pedal switch electrical connector (if equipped).
    • Detach the pedal switches electrical harness from the brake pedal bracket.
Vehicles built up to 06/2003

  1. Detach the clutch pedal return spring from the clutch pedal.

  1. Detach the clutch master cylinder from the clutch pedal and bracket.
    1. Detach the actuating rod.
    1. Remove the retaining bolts.
Vehicles built 06/2003 onwards

  1. Detach the clutch pedal return spring from the clutch pedal.

  1. Detach the clutch master cylinder actuating rod from the clutch pedal.
    • Remove the clutch master cylinder actuating rod pin.

  1. Detach the clutch master cylinder from the clutch pedal and bracket.
All vehicles

  1. Detach the brake pedal bracket from the floor pan.

  1. Remove the brake booster retaining nuts.

  1. Detach the brake booster actuating rod from the brake pedal.
    1. Depress the clip.
    1. Remove the brake booster actuating rod pin.
  1. Remove the brake pedal bracket.
Vehicles built up to 06/2003

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not remove the clutch pedal.
    Remove the brake pedal.
    1. Remove the pivot shaft nut.
    1. Slide out the pedal pivot shaft.
    1. Remove the brake pedal.

  1. Remove the brake pedal bushings.
Vehicles built 06/2003 onwards

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:From 12/2003 the brake pedal will not be equipped with the brake pedal decoupler mechanism.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not remove the clutch pedal.
    Remove the brake pedal.
    1. Remove the pivot shaft nut.
    1. Slide out the pedal pivot shaft.
    1. Remove the brake pedal.

  1. Remove the brake pedal bushings.

Installation

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Install a new steering column shaft to steering gear pinion retaining bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not drop or knock the brake pedal. Failure to follow this instruction will cause damage to the brake pedal decoupler mechanism (if equipped).
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the clutch master cylinder actuating rod pin is correctly located.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
