General Procedures

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Hose Clamp

  1. Remove the left-hand headlamp assembly.
    For additional information, refer to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the left-hand front wheel and tire.
    For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the left-hand front fender splash shield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Cap the power steering fluid reservoir to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Using the special tool, disconnect the steering gear to power steering fluid reservoir return line from the power steering fluid reservoir.
    • Allow the steering fluid to drain into a container.
  1. Place the end of the steering gear to power steering fluid reservoir return line into a container.
  1. Lower the vehicle until the wheels are clear of the floor to allow the steering wheel to be rotated from lock to lock.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When filling the power steering fluid reservoir, make sure that the steering fluid is clean and not agitated prior to use. The steering fluid should be poured slowly into the power steering fluid reservoir to minimize the possibility of aeration. The steering fluid level should be checked with the steering fluid cold.
    Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the MAX mark with the appropriate steering fluid.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When flushing the power steering system, make sure that the steering fluid in the power steering fluid reservoir does not fall below the MIN mark.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:When filling the power steering fluid reservoir, make sure that the steering fluid is clean and not agitated prior to use. The steering fluid should be poured slowly into the power steering fluid reservoir to minimize the possibility of aeration. The steering fluid level should be checked with the steering fluid cold.
    Start the engine and slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
    • With the aid of another technician, add the steering fluid to the power steering fluid reservoir until the power steering system is free of contaminated steering fluid.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: (100-02 Jacking and Lifting)

  1. Using the special tool, connect the steering gear to power steering fluid reservoir return line to the power steering fluid reservoir.

  1. Install the left-hand front fender splash shield.
  1. Install the left-hand front wheel and tire.

  1. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the MAX mark with steering fluid as necessary.
  1. Install the left-hand headlamp assembly.
    For additional information, refer to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
