Detach the coolant expansion tank from the wheelhouse assembly and position it to one side. - Remove the retaining bolt.
- Release the retaining clip.

Remove the timing belt upper cover retaining bolts. | | -
Detach the power steering line from the power steering pump mounting bracket. | | -
Detach the power steering line bracket from the cylinder head. | | -
Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to: Power Steering Pump Belt - 1.25L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), Vehicles With: Air Conditioning (303-05 Accessory Drive, Removal and Installation). | | -
Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir return hose quick release coupling, from either the power steering fluid cooler or the power steering reservoir return hose. - Press the power steering fluid reservoir return hose quick release coupling locking tangs.
- Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir return hose quick release coupling.
- Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

Using the special tool, disconnect the power steering fluid supply hose from the power steering pump. - Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

CAUTION:Do not disconnect the power steering pump pressure adapter from the power steering pump. Using the special tool, disconnect the power steering line from the power steering pump pressure adapter. - Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

Remove the power steering pump. - Push the timing belt cover to one side to get access to the power steering pump retaining bolts.
| Installation CAUTION:Make sure that a new power steering pump pulley is installed when installing a new power steering pump delievered without pulley. | -
NOTE:This step is only necessary when installing a new power steering pump delievered without pulley. Using the special tool, install a new power steering pump pulley. | | -
NOTE:If installing a new power steering pump, the power steeing line union supplied with the new pump should be removed and retained for further use. Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal onto the power steering line to power steering pump union. - Push the O-ring seal onto the special tool.
- Locate the special tool onto the union and install the O-ring seal.

NOTE:Make sure the collar on the hose is inserted fully into the quick release coupling. To install, reverse the removal procedure. | | -
