ISSUE
Some 2009 Focus vehicles may exhibit a rear brake drag condition. This may be due to an improperly adjusted park brake, and can occur on one or both
rear wheels.
ACTION
Follow the service procedure to properly adjust the parking brake at the rear wheel(s) and correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Follow this procedure anytime the rear park brake needs to be adjusted
1. Relieve the tension on the park brake cable by loosening the adjustment nut on the park brake handle. Reference Workshop Manual, Section 206-02.
2. Remove the suspect brake drum(s).
3. Neutralize the parking brake internal auto-adjuster located in the brake drum by applying pressure to the spring retainer rod on the top of the adjuster.
Use a suitable tool to push the rod towards the exterior of the drum. (Figure 1)
4. Install the brake drum, and apply the service brake pedal five (5) times.
