Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Door Ajar Indicator Lamp and Chime
The door ajar indicator and chime feature is controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM). The driver and passenger door ajar switches (and
liftgate-wagon only) are hard-wired to the GEM. If any door is sensed open, the module will process the input, and output an audible chime and a
visual warning at the instrument cluster.
Safety Belt Warning Buzzer
The safety belt warning buzzer is controlled by the GEM. The driver safety belt switch is hard-wired to the restraint control module. The module will
emit a buzzing noise if the ignition is turned to the on position and the safety belt is not buckled.
Headlamp-On Warning Chime
The headlamp-on warning feature is controlled by the GEM. The headlamp and ignition switches are monitored by the GEM. If the headlamps are
sensed as being on and the ignition off, the module will process the input, and in turn output an audible chime.
Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime
The key-in-ignition warning feature is controlled by the GEM. The ignition switch and the driver door ajar switches are monitored by the GEM. If the
key in ignition is sensed and the driver door is open, the module will process these inputs, and output an audible chime.
Air Bag Warning Chime
The Air Bag warning chime function warns the driver that the air bag warning indicator lamp is not operating and a fault has occurred in the air bag
system by sounding a chime when the ignition is in the RUN position.
