Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Expander, Teflon Seal

Remover/Installer, Cooling Hose Clamp

All vehicles
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to: (303-05A Accessory Drive)
    Accessory Drive Belt - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), Vehicles With: Air Conditioning (Removal and Installation),
    Accessory Drive Belt - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), Vehicles Without: Air Conditioning (Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the radiator splash shield.

  1. Remove the right-hand front fender splash shield.
Vehicles with power steering fluid cooler

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid cooler to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid cooler hose to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Using the special tool, disconnect the fluid cooler hose from the power steering fluid cooler.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
Vehicles without power steering fluid cooler

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid return line to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid reservoir to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the power steering fluid return line from the power steering fluid reservoir.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering fluid supply hose to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering pump connection to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the power steering fluid supply hose from the power steering pump.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the position of the power steering fluid lines support bracket to aid installation.
    Detach the power steering fluid lines bracket from the vehicle body.

  1. Detach the power steering pump to steering gear pressure line from the support bracket.
    1. Release the retaining clip.
    1. Open the support bracket.

  1. Detach the power steering fluid lines support bracket from the steering gear.

  1. Detach the power steering pump to steering gear pressure line from the support bracket.
    1. Release the retaining clip.
    1. Open the support bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the power steering lines to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the steering gear valve body to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the power steering lines from the steering gear valve body.
    1. Remove the retaining bolt.
    1. Rotate the clamp plate.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the power steering pump lower retaining bolts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Remove the Generator.

15. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Fill and bleed the power steering system.

Removal Details

Item 3 : Power steering pump

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure vice jaw protectors are used.
    Secure the power steering pump in a vice.

  1. Remove the power steering pump to steering gear pressure line and the PSP switch.

Installation Details

Item 3 : Power steering pump

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Care must be taken to prevent dirt ingress.
    Using the special tool, install a new Teflon seal onto the power steering line to power steering pump union.
    1. Push the new Teflon seal onto the special tool.
    1. Locate the special tool onto the union and install the Teflon seal.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure vice jaw protectors are used.
    Secure the power steering pump in a vice.

  1. Install the power steering pump to steering gear pressure line and the PSP switch.
  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vice.

  1. Install new O-ring seals onto the power steering lines.
