Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Cooling Hose Clamp

303-397 (24-003)

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system.
    For additional information, refer to: Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding - 2.0L (303-03F, General Procedures).
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the windshield wiper motor is in the park position.
    Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect (414-01, General Procedures).

  1. Location of the engine upper cover retaining clips.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Care must be taken when releasing the fourth retaining clip and maneuvering the engine upper cover past the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the MAP sensor.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Only remove and install the engine upper cover in the sequence shown.
    Remove the engine upper cover.

  1. Detach the brake fluid reservoir from the bulkhead extension panel.

  1. Remove the windshield wiper arms.

  1. Remove the cowl panel.
    1. Detach the cowl panel from the retaining clips.
    1. Remove the cowl panel by detaching it from the windshield glass lower weatherstrip.

  1. Remove the bulkhead extension panel.
    1. Remove the bulkhead extension panel retaining screws.
    1. Detach the bulkhead extension panel from the retaining clips.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the EGR cooler to engine coolant hose from the EGR cooler.

  1. Disconnect the heater core to EGR cooler coolant hose from the EGR cooler.

  1. Remove the EGR cooler to intake manifold retaining bolts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the EGR cooler to exhaust manifold retaining bolts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the EGR cooler retaining bolts and remove the EGR cooler.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new EGR cooler to intake manifold and EGR cooler to exhaust manifold gaskets.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Hand start all of the EGR cooler retaining bolts and then tighten in the sequence shown.
  1. Initialize the door window motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11, General Procedures).
