Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the engine upper cover.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: (100-02 Jacking and Lifting)
    Jacking (Description and Operation),
    Lifting (Description and Operation).

  1. Remove the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining bolt.

  1. Detach the charge air cooler intake pipe from the transaxle.
    1. Loosen the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining clamp.
    1. Remove the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining bolt.

5. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

  1. Attach the charge air cooler intake pipe to the transaxle.
    1. Tighten the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining clamp.
    1. Install the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining bolt.

  1. Install the charge air cooler intake pipe retaining bolt.

  1. Install the engine upper cover.

Removal Details

Item 1 : Exhaust flexible pipe

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.
    Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or splint.

Item 3 : Catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not loosen or remove the catalytic converter support bracket to catalytic converter retaining bolt.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not remove the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts at this stage.
    Loosen the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts.

Item 4 : Engine bracket retaining bolts

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not remove the engine bracket retaining bolts at this stage.
    Loosen the engine bracket retaining bolts.

Item 5 : Catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Vehicles built up to 01/2007.
    Remove the retaining nut and the bracket.
    • Discard the retaining nut and the bracket .

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Vehicles built 01/2007 onwards.
    Remove the retaining nuts.
    • Discard the retaining nuts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

Item 9 : Catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp

NOTE:
NOTE:Note the position of the catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp to aid installation.

Item 11 : Catalytic converter heat shield bracket lower retaining bolt

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: (100-02 Jacking and Lifting)
    Jacking (Description and Operation),
    Lifting (Description and Operation).

Item 13 : Catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts

  1. With the aid of another technician, remove the catalytic converter.
    • Remove the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts.

Installation Details

Item 1 : Catalytic converter

  1. Attach the new catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp to the catalytic converter.

  1. Attach the catalytic converter to the transaxle bracket. (Vehicles built up to 01/2007)

Item 2 : Catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts at this stage.
    Install the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts.

Item 3 : Catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Vehicles built up to 01/2007
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut at this stage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut.
    Install the catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Vehicles built 01/2007 onwards.
    Install the bracket retaining nuts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

Item 4 : Catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Never use jointing compound forward of the catalytic converter.
NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure that the catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp is installed in its original position.

Item 5 : Catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut (Vehicles built up to 01/2007)

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: (100-02 Jacking and Lifting)
    Jacking (Description and Operation),
    Lifting (Description and Operation).

Item 6 : Engine bracket retaining bolts

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the catalytic converter to transaxle bracket retaining nut is tightened before tightening the engine bracket retaining bolts.

Item 7 : Catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the engine bracket retaining bolts are tightened before tightening the catalytic converter support bracket to engine bracket retaining bolts.

Item 9 : Exhaust flexible pipe

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.
    Remove the exhaust flexible pipe support wrap or splint.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

Item 12 : Catalytic converter heat shield bracket lower retaining bolt

NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure that the catalytic converter heat shield bracket upper retaining bolt is tightened before tightening the catalytic converter heat shield bracket lower retaining bolt.
