Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/installer, coolant hose clamp

303-397 (24-003)

All vehicles
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to:
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03A, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03B, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03C, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03D, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03E, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften - 2.0L (303-03F, General Procedures),
    Kühlsystem entleeren, mit Kühlmittel auffüllen und entlüften (303-03G, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the engine cover (2.0L diesel shown).
Vehicles with 1.8L diesel engine
  1. Remove the right-hand headlamp assembly.
    For additional information, refer to: Scheinwerfereinheit (417-01, Removal and Installation).

  1. Disconnect the boost pressure sensor electrical connector.

  1. Detach the intercooler outlet pipe from the intercooler.

  1. Detach the intercooler outlet pipe from the throttle body.

  1. Detach the intercooler outlet pipe bracket from the radiator.

  1. Remove the intercooler outlet pipe.
    1. Detach the fuel pipe bracket from the threaded pin.
    1. Remove the nut.
    1. Remove the outlet pipe.
All vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Mark installation position of front engine mounting bracket with respect to wheelhouse.
    Remove front engine mounting bracket retaining bolts.
    • Pull the engine forwards.

10. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the windshield wiper motor is in the park position.

CAUTION:Close off the coolant hoses, fuel hose and the fuel powered booster heater to prevent dirt entering.

11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Ensure that the front engine mounting bracket is in the original installation position.
  1. Check the angle of the windshield wiper arms in relation to the windshield.
    For additional information, refer to: Vorderen Wischerarm einstellen (501-16, General Procedures).

Removal Details

Item 6 : Bulkhead extension

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, rinse off the affected areas with cold water without delay.
    Detach the brake fluid reservoir from the bulkhead extension and tie it back to one side.

Item 7 : Intake hose for the booster heater

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Anheben mit Hebebühne (100-02, Description and Operation).

  1. Disconnect the additional coolant pump electrical connector (if equipped).

Item 9 : Connector for the booster heater

  1. Lower the vehicle.

Item 14 : Fuel-powered booster heater

  1. Unclip the fuel powered additional heater from the bracket.

Installation Details

Item 2 : Windshield wiper arms

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Move the windshield wiper motor to the parked position before installing the wiper arms.
