Door Alignment - 3-Door > < 501-03 Body Closures|Specifications
Body Closures - Liftgate Alignment Focus 2004.75 (07/2004-)
General Procedures

  1. Make sure that the liftgate is in the fully closed position.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The liftgate must be positioned centrally in the liftgate opening.
    Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the liftgate opening.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the rear body panel on both sides (left hand side shown).
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = 4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. If adjustment is required, open the liftgate and loosen the liftgate hinge to liftgate retaining screws one complete turn.

  1. Adjust the liftgate as necessary.

  1. Tighten the liftgate hinge to liftgate retaining screws.
  1. Make sure that the liftgate is in the fully closed position.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The liftgate must be positioned centrally in the liftgate opening.
    Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the liftgate opening.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the rear body panel on both sides (left hand side shown).
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = 4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If the liftgate alignment cannot be achieved at the liftgate hinges to liftgate, adjustment must be carried out at the liftgate hinges to body.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:If adjustment of the liftgate hinges to body is required the headliner must be removed.
    Open the liftgate.

  1. Remove the liftgate opening weatherstrip.
  1. Remove the headliner.

  1. Loosen the liftgate hinge to body retaining screws one complete turn.

  1. Adjust the liftgate as necessary.

  1. Tighten the liftgate hinge to body retaining screws.
  1. Make sure that the liftgate is in the fully closed position.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The liftgate must be positioned centrally in the liftgate opening.
    Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the liftgate opening.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the rear body panel on both sides (left hand side shown).
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = 4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

  1. Check and note any misalignment of the liftgate in relation to the roof panel.
    • XX = -1.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.
  1. If further adjustment is required repeat the liftgate hinge to body adjustment.
  1. If no further adjustment is required open the liftgate.
  1. Install the headliner.

    Headliner - 3-Door, Vehicles Without: Sliding Roof Opening Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

  1. Install the liftgate opening weatherstrip.
  1. With the aid of another technician on the inside of the vehicle, check and note any misalignment of the liftgate latch striker plate in relation to the liftgate latch.
  1. Open the liftgate.

  1. Remove the liftgate latch striker plate retaining screw covers.

  1. Loosen the liftgate latch striker plate retaining screws one half turn (liftgate opening scuff plate removed for clarity).

  1. Adjust the liftgate latch striker plate as necessary (liftgate opening scuff plate removed for clarity).

  1. Tighten the liftgate latch striker plate retaining screws (liftgate opening scuff plate removed for clarity).
  1. With the aid of another technician on the inside of the vehicle, check and note any misalignment of the liftgate latch striker plate in relation to the liftgate latch.
  1. If further adjustment is required repeat the liftgate latch striker plate adjustment.

  1. If no further adjustment is required, install the liftgate latch striker plate retaining screw covers.
