Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Fluid Reservoir—2.0L Duratec-RS (Zetec) Focus RS 2003 (09/2002-)
Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid is split on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
    Disconnect the electrical connector from the filler cap.
    1. Pull back the tab.
    1. Depress the clips.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The brake fluid reservoir cap must not become contaminated.
    Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:It will be necessary to carry out this step on both sides in order to completely drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Connect one end of a suitable piece of clear plastic pipe to the bleed nipple and place the other end into a suitable container.
    1. Loosen the bleed nipple.
    1. Depress the brake pedal until all the fluid is drained from the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Tighten the bleed nipple.
  1. Install the brake fluid reservoir cap.

  1. Detach the brake fluid reservoir from the bulkhead.

  1. Detach the central electrical box screw from the bulkhead.

  1. Detach the electrical connector clip from the central elecrtical box.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake master cylinder hose connections to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the brake master cylinder hose from the master cylinder.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the clutch master cylinder hose connections to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the clutch master cylinder hose from the clutch master cylinder.

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid reservoir wiring harness.
  1. Remove the brake fluid reservoir.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
