Diagnosis and Testing

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR

Remove the steering column shrouds.
2
Check the ignition switch electrical connector.

Is the ignition switch connector clean and secure?
Yes
No
CLEAN and SECURE the ignition switch electrical connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30 BB 9 (RD)

Disconnect fuse 8 (30A).

Disconnect the ignition switch C456.
3
Connect fuse 8 (30A).

4
Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C456 pin 4, circuit 30 BB 9 (RD) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
VERIFY the customers concern.
No
REPAIR circuit 30 BB 9 (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : NO POWER IN ACC

B1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30 BB 9 (RD)

Disconnect fuse 8 (30A).

Disconnect the ignition switch C456.
3
Connect fuse 8 (30A).

Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C456 pin 4, circuit 30 BB 9 (RD) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 75 DA 1 (YE). REFER to Section  415-01 Audio Unit.TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30 BB 9 (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : NO POWER IN RUN

C1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30 BB 9 (RD)

Disconnect fuse 8 (30A).

Disconnect the ignition switch C456.
3
Connect fuse 8 (30A).

Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C456 pin 4, circuit 30 BB 9 (RD) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 15 DA 1 (GN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30 BB 9 (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST D : NO POWER IN START

D1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30 BB 9 (RD)

Disconnect fuse 8 (30A).

Disconnect the ignition switch C456.
3
Connect fuse 8 (30A).

4
Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C456 pin 4, circuit 30 BB 9 (RD) harness side and ground

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 50 BB 16A (GY/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30 BB 9 (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.
