Diagnosis and Testing

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart

Mechanical
  • Vacuum line(s)
  • Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose(s)/hose joints
  • PCV hose one way valve
  • Sealing washer(s)
  • PCV valve
  • Crankcase vent oil separator
  • PCV oil separator
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart.

Valve cover oil separator
*
CHECK the PCV system components for blockages and damage. CLEAN or INSTALL new components as necessary.
