Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the gearshift cables from the transaxle.
    1. Detach the gearshift cable (colored white) and the selector cable (colored black) from the shift lever and the selector lever.
    1. Turn the abutment collars clockwise and detach the cables from the bracket.

  1. Shift the gearshift mechanism to the neutral position.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.
    Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or a suitable splint.

  1. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
    • Detach the catalyst monitor sensor wiring harness from the transaxle.

  1. Detach the exhaust flexible pipe from the catalytic converter.
    • Remove and discard the retaining nuts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the exhaust flexible pipe from the muffler assembly.
    • Remove and discard the retaining nuts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the exhaust front heat shield nuts.

  1. Lower the heat shield.
    • Remove the exhaust front heat shield nuts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift linkage.
    1. Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift and selector lever.
    1. Turn the abutment sleeves clockwise and detach the cables from the bracket.

  1. Remove the center console trim panel.

  1. Fold back the floor covering and the sound deadending material (heater core shown removed for clarity).

  1. Detach the gearshift cable and the selector cable bushing from the floor panel and pull the cables through to the vehicle interior (heater core shown removed for clarity).

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new exhaust flexible pipe gaskets and retaining nuts.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Adjust the gearshift cables. For additional information, refer to Section  308-00 Manual Transmission/Transaxle and Clutch - General Information.
