Removal and Installation Removal | -
Detach the gearshift cables from the transaxle. - Detach the gearshift cable (colored white) and the selector cable (colored black) from the shift lever and the selector lever.
- Turn the abutment collars clockwise and detach the cables from the bracket.

Shift the gearshift mechanism to the neutral position. | | -
CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure. Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or a suitable splint. | | -
Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector. - Detach the catalyst monitor sensor wiring harness from the transaxle.

Detach the exhaust flexible pipe from the catalytic converter. - Remove and discard the retaining nuts.

Remove the exhaust flexible pipe from the muffler assembly. - Remove and discard the retaining nuts.
| | -
Remove the exhaust front heat shield nuts. | | -
Lower the heat shield. - Remove the exhaust front heat shield nuts.

Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift linkage. - Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift and selector lever.
- Turn the abutment sleeves clockwise and detach the cables from the bracket.

Remove the center console trim panel. | | -
Fold back the floor covering and the sound deadending material (heater core shown removed for clarity). | | -
Detach the gearshift cable and the selector cable bushing from the floor panel and pull the cables through to the vehicle interior (heater core shown removed for clarity). | Installation | -
NOTE:Install new exhaust flexible pipe gaskets and retaining nuts. To install, reverse the removal procedure. | | |
