Removal and Installation

Electrical Hand Drill
Stud Extractor
Screwdriver

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable for additional information. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Detach the instrument panel lower panel from the instrument panel.
    1. Remove the screws.
    1. Release the clip.

  1. Detach the steering column upper shroud from the steering column lower shroud.
    • Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the two clips (one each side).

  1. Detach the audio control switch from the steering column lower shroud.
    • Using a thin blade screwdriver, release the locking tang.

  1. Remove the audio control switch.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. Remove the steering column lower shroud.
    1. Release the steering column locking lever.
    1. Remove the screws.

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch and turn signal electrical connectors.

  1. Using a suitable Electrical hand drill and Stud extractor, remove the ignition lock shield upper retaining bolt.

  1. Using a suitable Electrical hand drill and Stud extractor remove the ignition lock shield lower retaining bolts.
    • Remove the ignition lock shield.
    • Discard the bolts.

  1. Remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver (steering column shown removed for clarity).

  1. Remove the ignition lock cylinder (steering column shown removed for clarity).
    1. Insert and turn the ignition key to position 1.
    1. Using a thin bladed screwdriver depress the detent.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The ignition lock shield retaining bolts are designed to shear at the specified torque.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new shear bolts.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
