Description and Operation
Hydraulic Clutch Operation
The hydraulic clutch mechanism consists basically of three main components:
1. Reservoir
2. Clutch master cylinder
3. Clutch slave cylinder
The advantages of a hydraulic clutch are that it is self adjusting, only needs low pedal pressure, and is not prone to wear.

Construction ‐ Hydraulic clutch
ItemDescription
1Brake fluid reservoir with chamber for hydraulic clutch system (sectional view)
2Clutch master cylinder; fitted at the side on the left pedal mounting
3Clutch slave cylinder with thrust bearing and bleed nipple; fixed as a unit on the front transmission housing
The VXT 75 Manual Transmission
The VXT 75 manual transmission is a new front wheel drive transmission with 5 manually selected gears and a high torque capacity (250 Nm).
This transmission is a twin shaft unit.
VXT 75 stands for:
V Vehicle
X TransaXle
T Transmission
75 Distance between input and output shaft in mm.
The aluminium transmission housing is made in two closed halves, thus avoiding outer gaskets.
In twin shaft transmissions all gear wheels are in constant mesh. In each gear the required transmission ratio is achieved by means of a pair of gear wheels.
When reverse gear is selected, the direction of rotation of the output shaft is changed by an idler gear.
The input and output shafts run in taper roller bearings. The gear wheels, synchroniser rings and shift mechanism parts are fairly similar in construction to the MTX 75 manual transmission. The output pinion and the output shaft constitute a single unit.
The 3rd/4th gear wheels are pressed onto the intermediate shaft. Hence the different dismantling and reassembling procedures.
The gearshift mechanism has been reworked and fitted with a non‐service operating cable for improved durability and smoother gear changing.
All the gear wheels, including reverse gear, are bevel cut, synchronised and run on needle roller bearings.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are double synchronised. This gives exceptionally quiet running, easy gear changes and a very compact unit with low weight.
