Diagnosis and Testing

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Section 417-02, for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Verification – All Vehicles

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE INTERIOR LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE

A1: CHECK INTERIOR LAMP CIRCUIT FOR OPEN.

Disconnect Interior Lamp C508.

Disconnect CJB C7.

Measure the resistance between interior lamp C508 pin 3, (RD/BK), harness side and CJB C7 pin 4, (RD/BK), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the CJB circuit C7 pin 4 (RD/BK) to splice S245. For additional information, refer to the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK THE POWER TO THE CJB

Measure the voltage between the CJB C7 pin 7, (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
A3: CHECK F100 (3A) FOR POWER

Disconnect F100 (3A).

Measure the voltage between F100 (3A) positive side, and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
A4: CHECK THE CJB CIRCUIT FOR OPEN.

Disconnect BJB C29.

Measure the resistance between BJB F100 (3A) negative side and BJB C29 pin 1, component side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit BJB C29 pin 1, (RD/BK), to CJB C7 pin 7, (RD/BK). For additional information, refer to the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : THE INTERIOR LAMP DOES NOT TURN ON WITH ONE DOOR OPEN

B1: CHECK ALL THE DOOR ENTRY SWITCH(ES) FOR CORRECT OPERATION.

Open and close each door in turn, observe the interior lamp(s) operation.

Is the interior lamp(s) illumination inoperative with the RH front door open?
Yes
RH drive vehicles, GO to B2. . LH drive vehicles GO to B4. .
No
The interior lamp illumination is inoperative with the LH front door open (RH drive vehicles), GO to B7. . The interior lamp illumination is inoperative with the LH front door open (LH drive vehicles), GO to B9. . The interior lamp illumination is inoperative with the RH rear door open, GO to B11. . The interior lamp illumination is inoperative with the LH rear door open, GO to B13. .
B2: CHECK THE RH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect RH Front Door Entry Switch C228.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 7, (BN/YE), harness side and RH front door entry switch C228 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B3: CHECK THE RH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the RH front door entry switch C228 pin 1, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new RH front door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation. If concern persists, INSTALL a new CJB.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B4: CHECK THE RH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect RH Front Door Entry Switch C228.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 6, (BN/YE), harness side and the RH front door entry switch C228 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B5: CHECK THE RH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the RH front door entry switch C228 pin 1, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new RH front door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B6: CHECK THE LH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect LH Front Door Entry Switch C227.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 6, (BN/YE), harness side and the LH front door entry switch C227 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B7: CHECK THE LH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the LH front door entry switch C227 pin 1, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new LH front door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B8: CHECK THE LH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect LH Front Door Entry Switch C227.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 7, (BN/YE), harness side and the LH front door entry switch C227 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B9: CHECK THE LH FRONT DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the LH front door entry switch C227 pin 1, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new LH front door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B10: CHECK THE RH REAR DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect RH Rear Door Entry Switch C230.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 6, (BN/YE), harness side and the RH rear door entry switch C230 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B11: CHECK THE RH REAR DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the RH rear door entry switch C230 pin 2, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new RH rear door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B12: CHECK THE LH REAR DOOR ENTRY SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Disconnect RH Rear Door Entry Switch C229.

Disconnect CJB C1.

Measure the resistance between the CJB C1 pin 6, (BN/YE), harness side and the LH rear door entry switch C229 pin 3, (BN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
B13: CHECK THE LH REAR DOOR ENTRY SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the LH rear door entry switch C229 pin 2, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new LH rear door entry switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : THE VANITY MIRROR LAMP(S) ARE INOPERATIVE

C1: CHECK THE VANITY MIRROR LAMP FOR POWER

Disconnect Vanity Mirror Lamp C407.

Measure the voltage between the vanity mirror lamp C407 pin 1, (RD/BK) - (drivers side) or C417 pin 1, (RD/BK) - (passengers side), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
C2: CHECK THE VANITY MIRROR LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the vanity mirror lamp C407 pin 2, (BN) - (driver side) or C417 pin 2, (RD/BK) - (passenger side), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new sun visor. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST D : THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

D1: CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP CIRCUIT FOR POWER

Disconnect Glove Compartment Lamp C383.

Make sure the glove compartment is fully opened.

Measure the voltage between the glove compartment lamp C383 pin 2, (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
D2: CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between the glove compartment lamp C383 pin 1, (BN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new glove compartment lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D3: CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP SWITCH FOR POWER

Disconnect Glove Compartment Lamp Switch C378.

Measure the voltage between the glove compartment lamp switch C378 pin 1, (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D4: CHECK THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LAMP SWITCH

Connect Glove Compartment Lamp C383.

Connect a fused jumper wire between the glove compartment lamp switch C378, pin 1, and pin 2 harness side.

Does the glove compartment lamp illuminate?
Yes
INSTALL a new glove compartment lamp switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit between the glove compartment lamp switch C378 pin 2, (RD/BK) and the glove compartment lamp C383 pin 2, (RD/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
