Inspect bearings for the following defects. Possible causes are shown: - Cratering — fatigue failure.
- Spot polishing — incorrect seating.
- Imbedded dirt engine oil.
- Scratching — dirty engine oil.
- Base exposed — poor lubrication.
- Both edges worn — journal damaged.
- One edge worn — journal tapered or bearing not seated.
