Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
  1. Remove the wheel.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.

  1. Detach the wheel speed sensor wiring harness from the wheel knuckle.
All Vehicles
  1. Detach the parking brake cable from the brake shoe and backing plate. For additional information, refer to Section  206-02 Drum Brake.

  1. Detach the parking brake cable and exhaust hanger from the wheel knuckle.
  1. Pull the parking brake cable through the wheel knuckle bracket.

  1. Remove the hub.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Suspend the backing plate to prevent load being placed on the brake hose.
    Suspend the backing plate.
  1. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the rear lower arm.

  1. Detach the front lower arm from the wheel knuckle.

  1. Detach the upper arm from the wheel knuckle.

  1. Detach the shock absorber from the wheel knuckle.

  1. Detach the rear lower arm from the wheel knuckle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:With the aid of another technician, support the wheel knuckle.
    Remove the wheel knuckle and bracket assembly.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The final tightening of the rear suspension components should be carried out with the vehicle on its wheels.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
