Drum Brake - Brake Shoes Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the road wheel.
  1. Remove the brake drum.

  1. If the brake drum does not come of de-adjust the brake shoes.

  1. Make sure that the hub flange is in the correct position.

  1. Remove the hold down springs.

  1. Detach the parking brake cable.
    1. Lever the trailing shoe assembly back.
    1. Detach the parking brake cable from the trailing shoe.

  1. Detach the shoes from the lower abutment.
    1. Detach the shoes from the lower abutment.
    1. Remove the lower pull off spring.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Take care not to damage the dust covers.
    Detach the shoes from the wheel cylinder.
  1. Hold the wheel cylinder pistons in place with an elastic band.
  1. Remove the lower pull off spring.

  1. Detach the leading shoe from the strut support.
    • The auto-adjust mechanism will operate and allow the pawl to detach from the shoe.

  1. Detach the trailing shoe from the strut support.
    • Separate the strut from the shoe by twisting the shoe through 90°.
  1. Detach the strut support spring.

Installation

NOTE:
NOTE:Install new shoes as axle sets.

  1. Clean, check and apply carrier plate grease to the carrier plate contact points.

  1. Refit the components in reverse order.
  1. Apply the footbrake to achieve auto adjustment.
