Fuel pump and sender unit (Petrol)
Fuel is supplied at high pressure to the injectors via a fuel rail which is equipped with a fuel pressure regulator. Petrol engined variants are equipped with an inertia type fuel shut-off switch to cut power to the fuel pump in the event of an accident. The fuel lines are metal with flexible connections. Connectors to the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel tank are of the quick release type. These connectors should be removed in one action by pressing the two releasing clips and pulling off the male connector. Reconnection is the reverse of this procedure, followed by a gently pull on the female connector to ensure correct location and sealing.
Diesel engines are equipped with a combined fuel injection system and fuel pump. Excess fuel and fuel return from the fuel injectors is returned direct to the fuel tank.
