Acceleration Control - Acceleration Control Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Diagnosis and Testing

Inspect the accelerator pedal and mounting pivot for damage and distortion. Inspect the cable linkage and mounting to the pedal assembly for signs of distortion that would bind or limit the accelerator travel.

Frayed or binding accelerator cable.

Renew the accelerator cable.
Accelerator pedal binds or sticks.

Kinked accelerator cable.
*
Renew the accelerator cable.
*
Foreign object caught in the accelerator pedal or linkage.
*
Check and repair the accelerator pedal or linkage.
*
Broken or binding return spring.
*
Check or renew the spring.
High engine idle speed/does not return to normal.
*
Kinked accelerator cable.
*
Renew the accelerator cable.
*
Binding accelerator cable.
*
Check the acceleration linkage.
*
Foreign object caught in accelerator pedal or linkage.
*
Check or renew the spring.
*
Broken or binding return spring.
*
Check engine idle speed. Use FDS 2000 to carry out check.

Inspect the accelerator cable routing for correct mounting, kinks or fraying which may cause binding or breakage.
