The integral heating and ventilation system is, for the most part, the same as the one used in Mondeo models from previous years.

Changes compared with the previous model:

• With the Mondeo '97, used air flows through ventilation slits in the storage compartment first to the luggage compartment, and from there through air escape flaps to the outside.
• The heater blower has a higher output.
• The switches have been redesigned to match the design of the Mondeo '97 instrument panel.
• The air distribution is controlled via vacuum diaphragm units and actuators.
• The construction of the centre and side vents has been changed to guarantee ease of operation.

• The radiator connections have been enlarged, which improves the heating capacity.
• The blower can be switched off completely by turning the air distribution control switch to the OFF position.
