Anti-Theft Alarm System

There are two levels of anti-theft alarm fitted to Mondeo models: perimeter alarm or perimeter alarm with interior scanning.

Both perimeter alarm and perimeter alarm with interior scanning may be fitted in conjunction with central locking, double locking, infrared remote control and illuminated entry.

The alarm system is a theft protection feature which gives an audible and visual alarm when someone intrudes into the vehicle through the doors, hood or luggage compartment.

The alarm system can be set only by locking either front door with the key or remote control. It can not be set from the interior door handles or luggage compartment lock. The control module is triggered by closing input circuit loops, therefore the alarm is unable to activate until all the input circuits are in a closed circuit condition. This is achieved only once the doors, hood and luggage compartment are fully closed.

Vehicles with the perimeter alarm activated have an actuation delay time of three seconds between the triggering and activation of the alarm system. Vehicles with the perimeter alarm and interior scanning activated have an actuation delay time of twenty seconds.

The actuation delay time starts when all the doors, including the hood and luggage compartment are fully closed and the alarm set switch is activated. The actuation delay time is interrupted if a door is opened and restarts when the door is closed again.

Once the activation delay time has elapsed, the alarm will be triggered if any of the doors or the hood are opened. The alarm will also be triggered if the ignition is turned on or the audio unit is removed while the system is armed.

A luggage compartment alarm inhibit switch prevents the alarm sounding when opening the luggage compartment with a key while the system is armed.

When the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn emits an intermittent signal for a maximum of thirty seconds (in order to comply with certain legislation) and the hazard flashers will also operate for five minutes. The system remains armed after this and will be triggered again by any subsequent activation.

The Mondeo alarm can be switched off only by unlocking one of the front doors with the key or remote control.

Interior Scanning

The interior scanning system is a theft protection feature which triggers the alarm when someone intrudes into the vehicle or breaks any window. Interior scanning and double locking is activated by turning the key in one of the front doors first to the unlock position and then within three seconds, to the lock position, or by pressing the lock button on the remote control twice within three seconds.

The interior scanning requires the same conditions as the alarm system to be followed, and should be activated only if all the windows and the sliding roof are fully closed, as wind movement could trigger the alarm.

The interior scanning is deactivated when one of the front doors is unlocked with the key or remote control.

In order to prevent annoyance from false alarms the interior scanning alarm will sound a maximum of three times in any one arming cycle.

Further Functions of the Alarm System

  • A data link connector is provided for connection to the FDS 2000 diagnostic equipment.
  • If the battery is disconnected when the system is armed, it will still be armed when the battery is reconnected.
  • The module memory can provide details through the diagnostic equipment of the last four alarm trigger points.

Further Funtions of the Interior Scanning

  • On wagon variants there are additional glass breakage sensors in the rear quarter and liftgate windows.
