The remote control transmitter initiates the following functions:

Infrared Remote Control System

The remote control system is completely independent in function but fully integrated within the anti-theft alarm and double locking module. The remote control system consists of a transmitter, infrared receiver sensors located within the front door exterior handle.

The remote control transmitter is housed within the ignition key and contains two buttons (lock and unlock) to operate the system:

Unlock button (pressed once only), deactivates the central locking, double locking, anti-theft alarm and the interior scanning system (if equipped).

Lock (pressed once only), activates the central locking and the anti-theft alarm system.

Lock (pressed twice within three seconds), activates the central locking, double locking, anti-theft alarm and interior scanning system (if equipped).

Unlock button (pressed once only), deactivates the double locking, anti-theft alarm, interior scanning system (if equipped) and the driver door lock.

Unlock button (pressed twice within three seconds), deactivates the central locking on the remaining doors.

The remote control transmitter for the infrared system must be aimed at either of the front doors during operation. The transmitter has a maximum range of five meters under normal operating conditions.

Before the remote control system can be used, each transmitter must be initialized to the vehicle. A maximum number of four transmitters can be initialized to any one vehicle. All remote control transmitters must be initialized at the same time.

Radio Frequency Remote Control System

The remote control system is completely independent in function but fully integrated within the anti-theft alarm and double locking module. The remote control system consists of a transmitter and an antenna.

The remote control transmitter is housed within the ignition key and contains three buttons to operate the system:

Press the LOCK button once to activate the central locking system and the alarm system.

Press the LOCK button twice within two seconds to activate the central locking system, double locking system, alarm system and the interior scanning system (if equipped).

Press the UNLOCK button once, the double locking is reset, the alarm system is deactivated and only the drivers door is unlocked.

Press the UNLOCK button twice within three seconds will unlock the remaining doors.

It is possible by using WDS, to change the logic within the anti-theft alarm and double locking module, so that one press will unlock all the doors and a double press will unlock only the driver door.

Press the LIFTGATE RELEASE button twice within three seconds releases the liftgate.

The radio frequency antenna is attached to the outside of the wiring loom situated under the driver side front floor covering.

The remote control transmitter for the radio frequency system will operate without the transmitter being directed at the vehicle. The normal range between the transmitter and the antenna will be 10 meters.

Before the remote control system can be used, each transmitter must be initialized to the vehicle. A maximum number of four transmitters can be initialized to any one vehicle. All remote control transmitters must be initialized at the same time.

Double Locking

For the removal and installation of the anti-theft alarm and double locking module. For additional information, refer to Section  419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules.

Double locking prevents the interior door lock levers from unlocking the vehicle. Double locking is activated by turning the key in either the driver or front passenger door, firstly to the unlock position and secondly to the lock position within three seconds or by operating the remote control.

Successful double locking activation is acknowledged by all of the turn signal lamps and the indicator LED (housed within the clock assembly) flashing twice.

Double locking will be inhibited if the anti-theft alarm and double locking module senses a door is open. The anti-theft alarm and double locking module receives this input through the central timer module, which receives its input from door ajar switches (incorporated within the door striker plate).

If the vehicle battery becomes discharged after the double locking is activated, opening a front door with a key will mechanically deactivate the double locking (on that door only).

A service test mode enables concerns to be easily traced. For additional information, refer to Section  419-01A Anti-Theft - Active / 419-01B Anti-Theft - Passive. Diagnosis and Testing section.

Inputs and Outputs

The anti-theft alarm and double locking module receives inputs from the following components for electronic door lock operation:

  • Remote control transmitter through the infrared remote control receiver sensor or radio frequency antenna.
  • Door ajar switches.
  • Hood switch.
  • Anti-theft alarm inhibit switch.
  • Ignition switch (positions I and II).

The anti-theft alarm and double locking module sends outputs to the following, for electronic door lock operation.

  • Turn signal lamps.
  • Central locking motors (remote control only).
  • Double locking motors.
  • Luggage compartment lock motor.
  • Indicator LED.
  • Interior lights-on command (when unlocking) to the central timer module.
