Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Alignment Pins, Subframe

General Equipment
Transmission jack
Axle stand

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.
Vehicles with xenon headlamps
  1. Remove the headlamp leveling sensor. For additional information, refer to Section  417-01 Exterior Lighting.
All vehicles
  1. Detach the exhaust system from the intermediate exhaust hanger insulator.
Vehicles with 1.8L, 2.0L or diesel engine
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Support the front and rear muffler assembly with a suitable axle stand.
    Detach the exhaust system from the rear exhaust hanger insulator.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Support the front and rear muffler assembly with a suitable axle stand.
    Detach the exhaust system from both rear exhaust hanger insulators (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).
All vehicles
  1. Using suitable wooden blocks and a suitable transmission jack, support the crossmember.

  1. Remove the crossmember retaining bolts (two bolts each side).
  1. Lower the crossmember to gain access to the front lower arm retaining nut and bolt.

  1. Detach the front lower arm from the wheel knuckle.

  1. Remove the front lower arm.

Installation

All vehicles
NOTE:
NOTE:Final tightening of the rear suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the front lower arm retaining nut and bolt at this stage.
    Install the front lower arm.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the front lower arm retaining bolt at this stage.
    Attach the front lower arm to the wheel knuckle.

  1. Using the special tool, align the crossmember.
    1. Insert the alignment pins through the crossmember alignment holes.
    1. Slide the locking plate into the groove and tighten the alignment pin sleeve.

  1. Install the crossmember (two bolts each side).
Vehicles with 1.8L, 2.0L or diesel engine
  1. Attach the exhaust system to the rear exhaust hanger insulator.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine
  1. Attach the exhaust system to both rear exhaust hanger insulators (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).
All vehicles
  1. Attach the exhaust system to the intermediate exhaust hanger insulator.
Vehicles with xenon headlamps
  1. Install the headlamp leveling sensor. For additional information, refer to Section  417-01 Exterior Lighting.
All vehicles
  1. Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.

  1. Tighten the front lower arm to wheel knuckle retaining bolt.

  1. Tighten the front lower arm to crossmember retaining nut.
Vehicles with xenon headlamps
  1. Initialize the headlamp leveling system using WDS.
