Engine System - General Information - Flywheel Inspection—1.8L Duratec-HE (MI4)/1.8L Duratec-SCi (MI4)/2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4), Vehicles With: Dual Mass Flywheel Mondeo 2001 (10/2000-02/2007)
General Procedures

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Do not rework the flywheel if it is distorted.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Do not clean the dual mass flywheel with any kind of fluid. Clean the flywheel with a dry cloth only.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Do not clean the gap between the primary and secondary mass. Only clean the bolt connection surface and the clutch surface.
  1. Inspect the flywheel, if there is evidence of the following install a new flywheel:
    • Cracks.
    • Worn ring gear teeth.
    • Chipped or cracked ring gear teeth.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Only turn the flywheel by hand.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The rotational torque applied must not exceed 20 Nm.
    Install the clutch pressure plate to the locating pins and move the clutch pressure plate in both directions.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:A new flywheel: XX = 13 mm maximium.
    Check the movement of the outer mass in relation to the inner mass.
    • If XX is greater than 20 mm, install a new flywheel.
    • If there is no movement, install a new flywheel.
