Removal

Vehicles with 5-speed manual transaxle
  1. Remove the clutch disc and pressure plate.
    For additional information, refer to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate - 3.0L Duratec-ST (VE6) (308-01 Clutch - Vehicles With: 5-Speed Manual Transaxle (MTX-75), Removal and Installation).
Vehicles with 6-speed manual transaxle
  1. Remove the clutch disc and pressure plate.
    For additional information, refer to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate (308-01B Clutch - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Manual Transmission (MMT6), Removal and Installation).
All vehicles
  1. Using the special tool, lock the flywheel in position.

  1. Remove the flywheel
    1. Remove the flywheel retaining bolts.
    1. Remove the adapter plate.
  1. Remove the special tool.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft rear seal.
    • Discard the seal.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new crankshaft rear seal.
    Lubricate the sealing lip of the crankshaft rear seal with clean engine oil.

  1. Using the special tool, install the crankshaft rear seal.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the flywheel retaining bolts at this stage.
    Install the flywheel and the adapter plate.

  1. Using the special tool, lock the flywheel in position.

  1. Tighten the flywheel retaining bolts in the sequence shown.
  1. Remove the special tool.
Vehicles with 6-speed manual transaxle
  1. Install the clutch disc and pressure plate.

Vehicles with 5-speed manual transaxle
  1. Install the clutch disc and pressure plate.
