Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Detach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose and the vacuum hose from the engine upper cover.

  1. Remove the engine upper cover.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Fuel supply line connectors are white or are identified by a white band. Fuel return line connectors are red or are identified by a red band.
    Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel injection supply manifold. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pulse damper.

  1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold retaining bolts and remove the fuel injection supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold spacers.
Vehicles built up to 03/2002
  1. Remove the fuel injectors.
    1. Remove and discard the fuel injector retaining clips.
    1. Remove the fuel injectors.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
Vehicles built 03/2002 onwards
  1. Detach the fuel injector retaining clips.
    1. Release the locking tangs.
    1. Remove the fuel injector retaining clips from the fuel injection supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel injectors.
    • Remove and discard the fuel injector retaining clips from the fuel injectors.
    • Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

Installation

  1. WARNING:

    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new O-ring seals.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new fuel injector retaining clips.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Lubricate the fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
