Removal

NOTE:
NOTE:If a new PCM is being installed connect WDS. Upload the PCM configuration information using the programmable modules installation routine prior to commencing the removal of the PCM.
NOTE:
NOTE:When installing a new PCM, all learnt values relating to diesel particulate filter must be carried over to the new PCM. This is to ensure that the ash level and remaining usable volume of the particulate filter aligns with the algorithm used to calculate the regeneration interval.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the strut and spring assembly top mount brace cover.

  1. Remove the strut and spring assembly top mount retaining nuts.

  1. Remove the strut and spring assembly top mount brace.

  1. Remove the PCM security shield rivet.

  1. Detach the engine wiring harness from the front inner fender.

  1. Using suitable tie straps, position the engine wiring harness to one side.

  1. CAUTION:
CAUTION:The PCM electrical connector ground cable is located behind the PCM security shield rivet. Care must be taken when drilling through the PCM security shield rivet not to drill through the ground cable.
Remove the PCM security shield from the PCM.

  1. Disconnect the PCM electrical connector.

  1. Detach the generic electronic module (GEM) from the PCM bracket (right-hand drive shown).
    1. Release the GEM retaining clip and slide the GEM upwards.
    1. Slide the GEM downwards to detach.

  1. Remove the PCM.

Installation

Vehicles with diesel particulate filter
NOTE:
NOTE:If a new PCM is being installed connect the WDS. Download the PCM configuration information using the programmable modules installation routine after the installation of the PCM.
NOTE:
NOTE:When installing a new PCM, all learnt values relating to diesel particulate filter must be carried over to the new PCM. This is to make sure that the ash level and remaining usable volume of the particulate filter aligns with the algorithm used to calculate the regeneration interval.
  1. Connect the WDS portable diagnostic unit to the vehicle and establish communication (VID the vehicle). Using the WDS follow the routine which covers the following process.
  1. The WDS will upload the existing learnt values (inhale data). The transfer of data will happen during the normal inhale/exhale process.
  1. Install a new PCM.
  1. The WDS will then run the software download to the new PCM.
  1. If communication with the existing PCM cannot be established, use the WDS to follow the routine which will cover the following process. This process needs to be followed as the learnt values within the old PCM cannot be uploaded.
  1. Carry out the new module software download.
  1. Carry out service reminder indicator (SRI) reset procedure.
  1. Enter injection correction factors.
  1. Enter tire size and axle ratio.
  1. Select the 'Toolbox' tab at the top of the WDS screen, select 'Powertrain/Service Functions' and run the routine regenerate DPF.
  1. Change the engine oil.
  1. Clear any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to this concern, disconnect the WDS from the vehicle and carry out a road test.
  1. If the DPF cannot be regenerated to an acceptable level at this point, the malfunction indicator (MIL) lamp will be active and a new DPF must be installed to align with the new PCM and new engine oil. If a new DPF is installed, the differential pressure sensor learnt values must be reset.
For additional information, refer to: Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) (309-00 Exhaust System, Removal and Installation).
All vehicles
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. NOTE:
NOTE:Do not press the accelerator pedal during the initialization period as this will prevent the complete initialization of the throttle body.
Turn the ignition key to position II and wait for one minute to initialize the throttle body.
  1. Initialize the door window motors.
For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
  1. If a new PCM is installed, reset the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve base value using Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS).
