Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the fuel filter bracket retaining bolts (vehicles without direct fuel injection shown).
Vehicles without direct fuel injection

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line and the fuel filter to fuel injection supply manifold fuel supply line from the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter retaining bracket.
    • Loosen the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt.
Vehicles with direct fuel injection

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line, fuel filter to fuel injection supply manifold fuel supply line from the fuel filter and the fuel filter to fuel tank fuel return line from the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Remove the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make a note of the position of the padding to make sure it is positioned in exactly the same position when installing.
    Remove the fuel filter and padding from the fuel filter retaining bracket.

Installation

Vehicles with direct fuel injection
WARNING:

NOTE:
NOTE:The rubber pad must be installed with the new fuel filter.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the padding is installed in the same position as removed.
    Install the fuel filter and padding to the fuel filter retaining bracket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt at this stage.
    Install the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the fuel filter is fully installed into the fuel filter retaining bracket.
    Align the marks on the fuel filter to the fuel filter retaining bracket stop.

  1. Tighten the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt.

  1. Connect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line, fuel filter to fuel injection supply manifold fuel supply line to the fuel filter and the fuel filter to fuel tank fuel return line to the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
Vehicles without direct fuel injection
WARNING:

NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure the fuel filter is fully installed into the fuel filter retaining bracket. Observe the direction of flow arrows on the fuel filter and the fuel filter bracket.

  1. Install the fuel filter to the fuel filter bracket.

  1. Tighten the fuel filter retaining bracket bolt.

  1. Connect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line and the fuel filter to fuel injection supply manifold fuel supply line to the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
All vehicles

  1. Install the fuel filter bracket retaining bolts (vehicles without direct fuel injection shown).
  1. Lower the vehicle.
