Wiring Harnesses - Engine Compartment Wiring Harness Mondeo 2001 (10/2000-02/2007)
Removal and Installation

All vehicles
  1. Remove the central junction box (CJB).
    For additional information, refer to: (418-00, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the engine cover.
    • Remove the oil level indicator and the oil filler cap.
  1. Remove the battery.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the battery tray.

  1. Disconnect the plug of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
    1. Disconnect the air cleaner intake pipe from the front fender.
    1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the valve cover.
    1. Disconnect the turbocharger intake tube from the turbocharger.
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the air cleaner.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Check that the windshield wiper motor is in the parked position.
    Remove the windshield wiper arms.

  1. Remove the cowls.
    • Pull the cowls from the retaining groove.
Vehicles with alarm system horn with integral battery

  1. Disconnect the anti-theft alarm horn electrical connector.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the windshield wiper motor and linkage.
    • Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.

  1. Remove the right and left-hand strut mount reinforcement covers.

  1. Remove the right and left-hand suspension strut nuts.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:After removing the right and left-hand strut mount reinforcements, reinstall the suspension strut nuts. Failure to observe this instruction can cause damage to the front suspension.
    Remove the right and left-hand strut mount reinforcements.
  1. Remove the washer water reservoir.
    For additional information, refer to: (501-16, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the left and right front wheel arch covers.

  1. Remove the engine undershield (if equipped).
Vehicles with fuel powered additional heater

  1. Disconnect the fuel powered additional heater connector.

18. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

19. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Move the windshield wiper motor to the parked position before installing the wiper arms.
NOTE:
NOTE:Install new suspension strut nuts.

Removal Details

Item 8 : Engine compartment wiring harness

  1. Slide the wiring harness into the engine compartment.

Item 15 : Engine compartment wiring harness

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Only vehicles with gas discharge headlamps
    Detach the wiring harness of the headlamp range control front sensor from the wheel housing.
    1. Detach the wiring harness clips.
    1. Disconnect the connector of the headlamp range control front sensor.
  1. Slide the wiring harness into the engine compartment.

Item 16 : High pressure switch connector

  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Detach the coolant expansion tank from the wheel housing and lay it to one side.

Item 23 : Electrical connector - powertrain control module (PCM) (only vehicles with diesel engine)

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Be certain not to damage the ground cable of the PCM while drilling out the rivets of the PCM security shield.
    Remove the powertrain control module security shield.
    • Drill out the rivets.

Item 32 : Connector - windshield washer nozzles with heating

  1. Remove the hood insulation.
    1. Remove the clips.
    1. Take out the insulation.
  1. Detach the sockets of the windshield washer nozzles with heating from the hood.

Item 34 : Wiriing harness - windshield washer nozzles with heating

  1. Lay the wiring harness in the engine compartment.

Item 37 : Electrical connector - hydraulic control unit (HCU)

  1. Unclip and pull out the ABS module wiring harness.

Item 54 : Ground cable bolt

  1. Slide the damping matting to the side and remove the bolt.

Item 55 : Ground cable - passenger compartment wiring harness

  1. Pull out the ground cable behind the damping matting.

Item 57 : Clips - engine compartment wiring harness

  1. Slit the damping matting.

Item 58 : Engine compartment wiring harness

  1. Pull out the wiring harness behind the damping matting.

Item 64 : Engine compartment wiring harness

  1. Slide the engine compartment wiring harness, together with the rubber grommet, into the engine compartment.
