Instrument Cluster - Instrument Cluster Mondeo 2007.5 (02/2007-)
Description and Operation

The instrument cluster is part of the central vehicle configuration and saves a copy of the configuration data stored in the GEM. It acts as a back-up copy in the event that the GEM must be renewed.

After changing the instrument cluster, the current mileage of the vehicle must be entered using the Ford diagnostic unit.

Is it possible to reset the mileage to zero on new vehicles. The following conditions apply:

  • the 20 kilometer (mile) limit must not be exceeded,
  • under 20 kilometers (miles), the mileage can be reset to zero a maximum of three times. However, resetting is only possible up to a total of 50 kilometers.

For this purpose, the confirmation button on the steering wheel must be pressed for longer than 7 seconds.

The instrument cluster can be diagnosed using IDS.

The information and message center indicator illuminates if a new message is stored in the information display. Depending on the importance of the message, the display lights up red or yellow and remains lit until the cause of the fault is rectified. When the ignition is switched off, flashing of the display shows the status of the alarm system, however, all other warnings take precedence and can interrupt the flashing.

The instrument cluster is used as a gateway for the following systems:

  • Audio unit
  • Compact disc (CD) changer
  • Video system
  • Navigation system (high and low level)
  • Cellular phone system

The instrument cluster gateway allows data from the modules and systems to communicate through the mid-series controller area network (CAN) bus to the modules, systems and data link connector (DLC).

Message center

The information and message center is a monochrome display and indicates to the driver the following information and messages in a text or graphical display:

  • Odometer
