Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Description and Operation
Description
Part 1 Of 2
Part 2 Of 2
The brake pressure control valve assembly contains a proportioning valve and a shuttle valve in an aluminum body.
The proportioning valve:
-
regulates hydraulic pressure in rear brake system.
-
is located between the rear brake systems inlet and outlet ports in the brake pressure control valve.
When brake pedal is applied, full brake fluid pressure passes through proportioning valve to the rear brake system until the valve's split point is
reached. Above the split point, the proportioning valve begins to reduce hydraulic pressure to rear brakes, creating a balanced braking condition
between front and rear wheels to minimize rear wheel lockup during hard braking.
